I think I have set it up so:

Gmail –> Posterous –> Google Buzz –> Facebook

I also think I've sorted it out so there will be no reposts/retweets of anything

Civilization V is a Severe Disappointment

20 10 2010

I have been a fan of the Civilization series since the very first game, which I bought on floppy disks. I've spent hours playing the various versions.  I have enjoyed it immensely.

I read a couple of good reviews of Civilization 5, and purchased it almost the day it came out, based on the goodwill built up from the first 4 incarnations…

However, I have been severely disappointed with Civ 5.  The two main issues are:
  1. It requires Valve's Steam to install, which seems to make it incredibly slow to start a game.  I had similar problems with Batman: Arkham Asylum, which made that game impossible to play on the PC.  I had to buy an XBox 360 copy to enjoy Batman, but there is no such recourse with Civ 5.  I hate Steam…
  2. I have barely played 20 turns of my very first game, and already the game has crashed 4 times out to Windows (7 Home Premium edition, and the rest of my computer's specs are well above the minimum required to play Civ 5).  Reading various sites I see that this is a common occurrence for many people.
So, I have a virtually unplayable game, and because it is tied to my Steam account I can't even sell it to some other sucker (oops, I mean customer).

People may say I was foolish to buy Civ 5 so soon after release, but I say shame on Firaxis for releasing such a flawed product in the first place…
